Racism in the mental health system has been there since its beginning. Psychiatry has grown out of a soil that is nourished with white supremacy and colonialism. It doesn’t want to acknowledge that. Psychiatry has no insight into its own condition. It is a danger to itself and others. But ultimately, psychiatry is terrified of giving Black, Brown, and other minoritised people the time, care and reparation they deserve.
